Mars is much similar to Venus. We are able to spot the mars easily because of its brightness. This is the main reason that the man who discovered mars is unknown. But the fact that we all know is that it was named after the roman god because of its reddish color that reminded the peoples blood.

Christina Huygens in 1659 discovered a strange feature on the surface of the red planet. It was presently called syrits major. Early from the beginning we are scared of Martians. But in 1802 one scientist was so converted that there was life on mars that he wanted to draw figures in the snow to signal the Martians.

In 1877 discoveries such as several lines crossing each other and water canals was done by the astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli.

Mariner 9 visited mars 1971 and sent back the images of the volcanoes and canyons. The satellite discovered that Olympus Mons the most famous volcano that is not on the earth. The discovery says that the Olympus volcano could cover the state of Missouri and would reach 15 miles above the surface. It also found out the evidence for the water bodies once flowed.

In 1975 Viking I and II spacecraft landed on the mars surface. The crafts analyzed the rocks and soil of the planet and send the information about the atmosphere and weather conditions. Even today the discovery of mars is still going on.
